NEXT STEPS KNITTING: Fairisle-style Stranded Colourwork Wrist Warmers (materials included)
Come and learn how to knit these heart-themed stranded colourwork wrist warmers with Nicky to get you started on your stranded colourwork journey.
The wrist-warmers are knit in the round using the magic loop method and feature a heart motif to get you in the Valentines mood! If you have a preferred method for knitting small circumferences in the round, you are very welcome to bring your own 4mm needles.
Everything you need to get going with your pair of wrist warmers will be provided on the day and you will have enough yarn (and the needles) to take home to finish them both.
Stranded colourwork is a method of changing colour in your knitting where the colours of yarn are alternated across the round, and the colour you are not knitting with is carried (stranded) across the back of your work until it's used again. This gives the fabric an extra layer of warmth as well as creating beautiful patterns. Fairisle is a particularly well known style of stranded colourwork.
These wrist-warmers are quick to knit and will give you a grounding in the basics of stranded colourwork if you are new to the skill. If you have tried stranded colourwork before, this is a chance to practise your skills in a supportive environment.
Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided. Please bring your own packed lunch. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements.
Skills required: Attendees should be confident with casting on, casting off, knitting and purling. An understanding of knitting in the round is required but you don't need to be an expert in it. If you've never knit with the "magic loop" technique, it will be helpful to try it before the day and I will provide a video tutorial in advance of the class explaining how it works. The class will suit those who are new to stranded colourwork as well as those who have tried it before and want to practise their skills in a supportive environment.
Materials Provided: Yarn and needles are provided on the day. A long circular needle for magic loop will be provided on the day but if you have a preferred method for working small circumferences in the round (i.e. double pointed needles or a 25cm circular) you are very welcome to bring them. I suggest size 4mm needles.
