I'm really excited about the Edelweiss Classic sock yarn! Using non-superwash wool and recycled nylon, Edelweiss Classic 4ply is a really interesting option for those looking to stop using superwash wool and/or newly produced plastic but still looking for something with the extra durability nylon offers, particularly for socks.
The strong solid colours lend themselves perfectly to plain socks or something with an interesting texture. A bit of lace and/or cables maybe? As I type I'm busy thinking up ideas for my next pair! Of course you can also combine colours for stripes or colourwork!
This is a standard 4ply sock yarn so should work for most sock patterns out there. The 100g ball is easily enough for a pair of calf-length socks, even for my size 8's!, with plenty left over to use as contrast heels, toes and cuffs in your next pair.
As always with Kremke Soul Wool, the wool is certified mulesing free.
Edelweiss Classic offers excellent value for a great quality woollen sock yarn!
This yarn is handwash only as the wool is not treated but I handwash all my knitted socks in Eucalan anyway.
When knitting socks, it is generally recommended you knit at a tight gauge so use a smaller needle than you would for garments and accessories. Your pattern should have a recommendation but I knit most of my socks on 2.25mm or 2.5mm needles.
Suggested gauge: 30 stitches over 10cm
Suggested needle size: 2mm - 3mm (depending on the project)
Fibre Content: 75% Wool/25% Nylon (recycled PET bottles)
Meterage: A 100g ball = 420m
Washing instructions: Handwash only, do not tumble dry.
