Join me, Nicky, for this lace knitting class and spend the morning at our teaching studio in the beautiful Somerset countryside of Chesterblade Hills between Shepton Mallet and Frome. With my support and encouragement knitters from beginner-plus level and up will learn the techniques needed for my Campfire Shawl design during this knitting course.
TECHNIQUES COVERED:
- Stretchy cast-on / bind off
- Yarn over increases
- Left and right leaning decreases
- Reading a lace knitting chart
- Advice on choosing yarns
- Advice on blocking your work
Lace knitting is an immensely satisfying and absorbing form of knitting. Lace patterns range from simple designs with a short and easily memorable repeats to extremely intricate and complicated patterns. Used with a fine weight of yarn, lace patterns will produce a delicate and feather-light item of great beauty, such as a wedding shawl, but lace knitting can also be used with heavier weight yarns for stunning effects.
With my friendly and relaxed approach, I will guide you through the basics of lace knitting using a motif from my Campfire Shawl pattern which I designed as an approachable project for people who are new to lace knitting. Since knitting my first lacework shawl over ten years ago, I’ve loved this enjoyable technique. By the end of the workshop you will have learnt the techniques you need to go on to make my Campfire Shawl design at home (the full pattern is included with the course). We will talk about how your choice of fibre and yarn weight can affect your finished project and we will discuss how to block your lace projects using wires and pins. You don’t need to bring anything with you on the day, everything you need is provided.

TESTIMONIAL:
“I have attended a few courses held by Nicky at All About The Yarn at Chesterblade Hills.
The shop/workshop is conducive to learning and the environment setting is amazing and relaxing too.
On arrival everything is set out and ready, the tuition is excellent and Nicky adapts to each person’s different level of knowledge. You learn with calm guidance and learn as you knit about other things too.
I would recommend a workshop and look forward to attending more. I am now able to knit socks for everyone! And will be giving fingerless gloves too this coming year for family and friends. It’s a lovely thing to do with friends or go solo and meet others who love to knit too!”
